Bus Stop at Alex Park Gates

One would never recognise this view of Alexandra Road South in Manchester today as apart from the church in the distance it was all demolished as part of the ill-fated Hulme development. Even though it was a bright sunny summer morning one can still sense the sooty atmosphere of Moss Side in those days but the red and cream Corporation buses on the 80 and 88 always added some cheer.. This was the view from my grandparents Whalley Range apartment in 1965 and as a small child I remember pulling the heavy net curtains to one side to watch the comings and goings of magnificent beasts like this Leyland PD2 MCW 'Orion' waiting 'Time' at The Park Gates. Note the clocking machine to make sure the crews did not leave early for the final leg to Chorlton-cun-Hardy.
