This was the last picture of that particular day in September 1997, and I was most fortunate to be able to photograph this Charles Roberts tram as it was the sole survivor of the troubled Blackpool 'Coronation Class' of 1953. Even though I thought it was getting too dark I had to capture it on film anyway as it as rarely ventured out on to the promenade. Not long afterwards it was withdrawn and then left to rot at a museum site. Fortunately this elegant machine with it's American inspired styling was returned to Blackpool and fully renovated as part of a television series. The rest of it's class were scrapped in 1977 which is a very short life as unlike buses trams have often seen service of one hundred years.
