By 1968 the bus fleet at Midland Red in Stafford was getting quite modern as the D9's were joined by no less than nine brand new Daimler Fleetlines with Alexander bodywork in 1967 and 1968. But all that was about to change when a year later the platform staff turned down one-man-operation, and consequently all but two of the indiginous Fleetline allocation were reallocated. In their place as well as some well used 'Black Country' D9's came four earlier similar DD11 buses. 5245 was the most interesting as numerically it was the company's first Fleetline. The thing I hated the most about these buses was they introduced 'bubble-gum pink' coloured easy to clean ceilings, A bus I remember well was 5289 which was a horrible as it rattled and shook, but at least it later did the 'decent thing' by destroyed itself by catching fire crossing Cannock Chase.Unfortunately that was replaced by yet another DD11 5255
