By 1967 the Leyland Leopard was firmly established at Midland Red especially for coach work, and the ten S20 BET Federation styled Willowbrook bodied dual-purpose buses complete with curved screens were the foresrunners of a large fleet delivered under the forthcoming government owned 'National Bus Company'. Most of the S20's were delivered for the companies long distance 'X' Services but somehow Leamington always seemed to get more than it's fair share of new buses. Even though the Leyland LD8 double-deckers had been withdrawn this garage still had a number of LS18 Leopards like 5230 in the background, but it didn't really need 5840 for it's trunk and X90 Services as they was normally worked by double-deckers.
