The D10's spent most of their early years working the arduous 245-6 Routes between Wednesbury and Stourbridge from Hartshill Garage. They tried to move them on but apart from Stafford most garages thought they were just too much trouble. When they had arrived in 1964 they were used exclusively on town services which passed the garage in case they failed, but within a few months they were brought back to health and joined the normal D9 turns. The main road 825 Service to Lichfield was a regular D10 haunt and during the afternoon this turn also worked Stafford Town Services on the S98 to Hyde Lea and Coppenhall passing my house. D10 4943 now in preservation has become something of a star but it's sister 4944, ooriginally built with an extra staircase and rear door was always a bit of a poor relation. Unfortunately the negative cropped the top of the bus slightly but believe it or not I managed to produce this believable colour image from the black and white photograph. 4944 Stands outside The Crown in Hyde Lea.
