Like
all bus enthusiasts I have a favourite type of vehicle and I expect others
too would choose something from their childhood or early teens. When I
was at school in Switzerland the Swiss tended to like very dull or muted
colours for their road vehicles and so these bright yellow FBW C40U post
buses with their top halves painted metallic silver, and separated with
a black band plus some red, really stood out. Because of the agressive
shark mouth like radiator grill they have become affectionately know as
'Haifisch', and the roar of the engine coupled to a whining Wilson pre-selector
gearbox was was not only out of this world it sounded the part. Eight
of them including P24028 could be found at Sion in 1964 and I persuaded
my school friends to go there for our half-term cycling expedition that
Summer.
